Piezo pickups can be made of a variety of materials and shapes. Finally, your ears receive the final word. Except for a preamp, there is no voicing of the piezo. In comparison to electromagnetic pickups, the use of a piezo system is much smaller and lighter.Ī magnetic pickup will give a voltage twice as large as normal by striking the strings twice as hard. The magnetic field changes when a microphone is attached to a membrane, rather than when the membrane moves with the coil attached. The frequency of the source has an impact on the current. The pressure used in a piezo-electric pickup causes the current to be generated. Throughout the nineteenth century, scientists attempted to understand how solid properties behave by experimenting with electricity. Pressure is used to drive an electric charge through a metal base, whereas heat is used to drive an electrical charge through a material in an electric guitar. Most electric guitar players use electromagnetism rather than piezo-electrics when creating their sound systems. However, in general, piezo pickups can be an excellent option for those looking for a high-quality, affordable pickup option. Not sure I would add this to a collector's item. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the quality of piezo pickups can vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer. There is a cable that is hard wired to the controller board that feeds through the box to the end pin.įeed it through the end pin hole and solder it to the end pin (I marked the leads).ĭrill and secure the two controller board panel screws to the mandoĭONE! Hook it up to your amp and set it to 11. Plug the other end of the pick up cable into the controller board Slip the pick up strip into the bridge and its cable thru the bridge hole and the hole you drilled in step #6 Use a fine toothed saw cut out that 1 1/2" x 5/8" hole. Read these instructions and you will get the idea:ġ) Loosen the all the strings on the mando enough to slip the OLD bridge out and then slip the new bridge in place.ģ) Adjust the bridge until the intonation is PERFECT.Ĥ) Using blue painters tape, mark the edges of the new bridge.Ħ) Measure several times where that hole is going in your top, fire up the drill and drill that hole.ħ) Figure out where the hole is going. Then mark where the hole needs to be drilled and THEN drill away. The hole is 5/32" but BEFORE you drill this you have to set this new bridge up so the mandolin's intonation is dead on. you will need to drill a hole through the top of the mandolin (eeek). They will need their holes drilled.ģ) The bridge already has a hole drilled in it to accommodate the passage of cables.however. To install this system you will need to alter your mandolin in THREE ways:ġ) You need to cut out a 1 1/2" x 5/8" window on the edge of your mandolin to accommodate the control unit.Ģ) That same control panel has two wood screws. If you want to electrify your mandolin, you are in the right spot! I took it out the day the mandolin arrived. That does not effect 's just scratched a bit. It is in new condition except the end pin was scratched up when it arrived. It has ALL the parts you need including the control plate, wires, transducer, end pin, etc. I won't use that system so I took it out of the instrument and am selling it. These mandolins come with a factory installed TC30 piezo pickup with onboard preamp. I have never sold anything on this service so be patient with me.Ī month ago I bought a brand new Dean Tennessee mandolin on line.
